Silica sol cast rolls for Steel Castings are a common process used to produce rolls with high strength and high wear resistance. Here are the general steps of the process:
1. Design and manufacture molds: Design and manufacture corresponding molds according to the size and shape requirements of the roll. The mold should have sufficient strength and precision to ensure that the cast roll meets the requirements.
2. Prepare silica sol: Silica sol is a high-temperature refractory material used to create the internal cavity of the mold. Silica sol is usually mixed with silicate and organic adhesive, and then filled into the mold by coating or injection.
3. Mold coating: Coat silica sol on the internal surface of the mold to form a uniform and dense coating. The thickness of the coating should be determined according to the requirements of the roll, usually between a few millimeters and tens of millimeters.
4. Mold drying: Place the mold coated with silica sol into a drying oven to remove moisture and organic adhesive. The drying temperature and time should be determined according to the properties and thickness of the silica sol, generally between tens to hundreds of degrees Celsius.
5. Sintering mold: Put the dried mold into a high-temperature sintering furnace to cause chemical reactions and structural changes in the silica sol at high temperatures to form a hard and refractory mold. The sintering temperature and time should be determined according to the properties and thickness of the silica sol, generally between a few hundred to a thousand degrees Celsius.
6. Casting roll: Place the sintered mold into the casting equipment, and inject the molten steel into the mold. After the molten steel cools and solidifies in the mold, it forms the overall structure of the roll. The casting temperature and time should be determined according to the properties of the molten steel and the requirements of the rolls.
7. Mold disassembly and post-processing: After the roll has cooled to room temperature, disassemble the mold, remove mold residues, and perform necessary post-processing processes, such as trimming, heat treatment, and surface treatment.
8. Inspection and quality control: Inspection and quality control of cast rolls, including inspection of size, shape, hardness, structure and performance. Make sure the rolls meet design and usage requirements.
